Summary

Which threads of fate will hold—and which will break?

Clever, bookish Fi and her brash, ax-wielding partner Shane are back in this action packed sequel to the bestselling The Bone Spindle, the gender-flipped Sleeping Beauty retelling, perfect for fans of Sorcery of Thorns and The Cruel Prince

Fi has awakened the sleeping prince, but the battle for Andar is far from over。 The Spindle Witch, the Witch Hunters, and Fi’s own Butterfly Curse all stand between them and happily ever after。

Shane has her partner’s back。 But she’s in for the fight of her life against Red, the right hand of the Spindle Witch who she’s also, foolishly, hellbent on saving。

Briar Rose would do anything to restore his kingdom。 But there’s a darkness creeping inside him—a sinister bond to the Spindle Witch he can’t escape。

All hopes of restoring Andar rest on deciphering a mysterious book code, finding the hidden city of the last Witches, and uncovering a secret lost for centuries—one that just might hold the key to the Spindle Witch’s defeat。 If they can all survive that long…

Set in a world of twisted fairytales, The Severed Thread combines lost ruins, ride-or-die friendships, and heart-pounding romance。

The Severed Thread is the second book in the Bone Spindle series and it definitely lived up to the first which was filled with magic, adventure , treasure hunting and the teasing of romance。 I absolutely loved the dynamic of Fi and Shane’s relationship in the first book and it did not disappoint going into the next book。 Going into book two Fi has awakened Prince Briar Rose and the battle for the Princes Kingdom of Andar is just beginning for them。 We’ve got Witch Hunters after them, the hunt fo The Severed Thread is the second book in the Bone Spindle series and it definitely lived up to the first which was filled with magic, adventure , treasure hunting and the teasing of romance。 I absolutely loved the dynamic of Fi and Shane’s relationship in the first book and it did not disappoint going into the next book。 Going into book two Fi has awakened Prince Briar Rose and the battle for the Princes Kingdom of Andar is just beginning for them。 We’ve got Witch Hunters after them, the hunt for a magically hidden city of Witches and more adventures and challenges along the way。I loved the world building in this book and enjoyed all the descriptions of the magic , relics and the places visited。 I enjoyed the steady pace of the plot and found it such a fun read。 I really enjoyed the authors writing style and found it had such good flow。 I love love love the characters in this series and feel they are well developed and have a good backstory of their own which helps with the story。I think my favourite character is definitely Fi, I love how her friendship with Shane has developed and how they come to actually care for each other and the other person’s safety。 I love how selfless she is with her curse and how she’s willing to help others。 I love how she is slowly falling in love with Briar and the hints that she does feel the same way he does。I absolutely can’t wait for the final book in the series to find out what happens next! 。。。more

A fun, enthralling sequel to The Bone Spindle that will have you gasping and grinning。 I loved this book。 The Severed Thread was so wonderful with found family, f/f and f/m romance, and fun new characters。 I missed the characters and the world and the banter。 The world-building, adventure, and treasure-hunting were so fun, and I absolutely needed it。 The ending was shocking and left me with mixed emotions。 It was bittersweet, and I was not ready。 I highly recommend The Severed Thread!Age recomme A fun, enthralling sequel to The Bone Spindle that will have you gasping and grinning。 I loved this book。 The Severed Thread was so wonderful with found family, f/f and f/m romance, and fun new characters。 I missed the characters and the world and the banter。 The world-building, adventure, and treasure-hunting were so fun, and I absolutely needed it。 The ending was shocking and left me with mixed emotions。 It was bittersweet, and I was not ready。 I highly recommend The Severed Thread!Age recommendation: 13+ (Violence, death, etc。)Romance: ❤️❤️❤️/5 。。。more

A fantastic sequel to The Bone Spindle, this book picks up right after the brutal cliffhanger of book 1。 In this installment, Fi and her partner Shane, along with some friends, have to save Andar from the witches, which is definitely easier said than done。 Of course our team has to go off on yet another hunt in order to find a specific item needed to crack the code to saving the city, and of course they encounter many a foe and plenty of danger along the way。 ⁣⁣Told through the POV’s of each of A fantastic sequel to The Bone Spindle, this book picks up right after the brutal cliffhanger of book 1。 In this installment, Fi and her partner Shane, along with some friends, have to save Andar from the witches, which is definitely easier said than done。 Of course our team has to go off on yet another hunt in order to find a specific item needed to crack the code to saving the city, and of course they encounter many a foe and plenty of danger along the way。 ⁣⁣Told through the POV’s of each of our characters, I loved getting to know both Red and Briar Rose a bit more, and loved seeing how well they worked alongside Fi and Shane。 Once again, we’re given another tense ending and it’s going to make the wait for book 3 seem like eons! ⁣⁣Bottom line — a delightful and action-packed second installment in the Bone Spindle series, and certainly one I’d recommend for lovers of queer gender-swapped fairytale retellings。 5 stars。 ⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣ 。。。more

4 stars。 This was much better than book one。 The writing was stronger and the characters got some pretty decent development。 Also, there was a lot more interactions between the characters which is really wanted。 That ending was so good and definitely has me excited for book two。 Shane and Red have such great banter and chemistry and Fi and Briar are so cute in all of their angst。 This was a very entertaining read and definitely improved upon all of the issues I had with book one。

I read The Bone Spindle in 2022 and loved it, however, I wasn't expecting so much to be left undone in the sequel。 Fi does appear to have fallen for Briar but her Butterfly curse stands between them and she's refusing help。 Shane is clearly in love with Red, but Red has her own issues with trusting people, and it turns out they are warranted。 Everyone has a past and it's all coming to light now。 Even the Spindle Witch's true goal and purpose for her sleeping spell and hunting Briar Rose。 So much I read The Bone Spindle in 2022 and loved it, however, I wasn't expecting so much to be left undone in the sequel。 Fi does appear to have fallen for Briar but her Butterfly curse stands between them and she's refusing help。 Shane is clearly in love with Red, but Red has her own issues with trusting people, and it turns out they are warranted。 Everyone has a past and it's all coming to light now。 Even the Spindle Witch's true goal and purpose for her sleeping spell and hunting Briar Rose。 So much has come to light but I now have different questions instead of fewer。 Can't wait for the final book next year。 But that's what happens when you start a new series as it first debuted。 。。。more

(Thank you to Netgalley and Hodder Children’s Book for an eARC in exchange for an honest review)I love retellings and I think this book (and the whole series so far) is done so well! A solid follow-up to The Bone Spindle! I wish this story would’ve given us more time in the various magical settings like the last one, but the adventures were thrilling and the victories hard won。 The heart of the story is Fi and Shane’s relationship, and their friendship runs deeper than ever。 I look forward to the last volume!

It’s been a little while since a new book appeared in my life and grabbed my heart with a tight fist, refusing to let go。 And that’s exactly what Leslie Vedder’s The Severed Thread did from cover to cover。I stumbled across book #1 in the series, The Bone Spindle, on Goodreads and ordered the damn thing the moment I saw it was a YA fantasy adventure with a WLW co-pilot。 I’m not saying sapphic fantasy novels are all I read, but take a look at my Goodreads page, and you’ll see pretty quickly how mu It’s been a little while since a new book appeared in my life and grabbed my heart with a tight fist, refusing to let go。 And that’s exactly what Leslie Vedder’s The Severed Thread did from cover to cover。I stumbled across book #1 in the series, The Bone Spindle, on Goodreads and ordered the damn thing the moment I saw it was a YA fantasy adventure with a WLW co-pilot。 I’m not saying sapphic fantasy novels are all I read, but take a look at my Goodreads page, and you’ll see pretty quickly how much of my bookshelf they fill。 To quote Ron Swanson, “I know what I’m about。”But I quickly learned there’s so much more to Vedder‘s fantasy series than positive lesbian representation。 The characters she’s created are all so fascinating and grounded that I’ll follow them wherever they go。The Severed Thread picks up right after The Bone Spindle with our main leads, Fi and Shane, exhausted and licking their wounds from a hard fight as they make their way toward a hidden city of witches, perhaps the last one in existence。Of course, Briar Rose and the Paper Witch are also part of the group now。 And danger seems to be around every corner with roaming witch hunters and Red, the revealed minion of the Spindle Witch, hot on their heels。I won’t spoil the rest of the plot, but most of it surrounds a hidden code Fi and Briar discover that may hold the key to defeating the Spindle Witch。 On top of that, Shane is still trying to grapple with her feelings of love and betrayal where Red is concerned。 And on the other side of that bridge, Red (who has the most adorable secret ability) seems to be struggling with confused feelings even more。Vedder’s characters are easily the strongest selling point for her series。 I love character-driven stories, and this is among my favorites in recent memory。 The Bone Spindle established Fi and Shane and their relationships so well that The Severed Thread just has to come along and easily grab the baton。Fi, Shane, Briar, and Red found their way so deep into my heart that it dialed the emotional highs and lows of this book up to 11。 Whenever Red and Shane had moments alone, I found myself holding my breath in anticipation as they tried to work through all the pain and hurt in their hearts。And during this book’s climax I was nearly in tears pleading with Fi, “Save him。 Save Briar, please!”I’m normally a quiet reader, but the excitement, the tension, the love, the tenderness, and more of Vedder’s writing drove me to vocalize。 When I wasn’t talking out loud to these characters (and subsequently pestering my wife with recounts of what I’d just read), I was grinning like an absolute goober at the cheekiness of Briar and the antics of Cinzel。In case my readers couldn’t tell, I have a mild obsession with wolves, so giving one to Red was just like instant endearment。Bottom line: Because Vedder created such addictive characters, this book hurt a lot more than anything I’d read in such a long time。 She really heaps abuse after abuse on Fi, Briar, Shane, and Red。 And what could I do but be dragged over the coals while holding onto the golden thread that kept pulling me forward through the narrative? So when they ached, I ached with them。 That’s damn good writing。It’s one thing for an author to convince me to take a journey with their characters。 That’s the base requirement to end up on the bookshelf next to my bed。 But it’s an entirely different level of accomplishment for me to care so deeply about an author’s characters that I’m on the edge of my seat for them, dancing around the living room for them, crying for them。 And Vedder did that。Her story is packed to the gills with magic, a fascinating world to explore, and characters that I could write several essays about。The Severed Thread comes with dreamy highs and crashing lows。 And through all of it, like Shane, I’m ready to leap through fire to see what happens next。I want love, healing, happiness, and joy for these characters。 And while I think Vedder might be a kind enough novelist to grant at least some of those things by the series’ end, she’s going to put her readers through the wringer to get there。 And that’s fine。 I imagine most of us will keep giving her money until she decides to print the words “The End。”Though, if I’m honest, I’ll probably be willing to keep handing over my hard-earned cash through the next book and the next。 The Severed Thread is more than enough to earn my loyalty as a continuing reader。Now I’m going to go cry and wait for book #3。 。。。more
